Boxted Wood is a small wooded area between the Essex villages of  Stebbing, to its  West, and Great Saling to the East, and sits on the edge of Andrewsfield Airfield a former WWII USAAF airbase but now a mere small grass flying strip surrounded by countryside.

The area in under considerable threat from development.
Galliard Homes seek to build 4500 houses on the site and 'Andrewsfield New Settlement Consortium' to develop 900 Hectares to the south of Great Saling which would also be likely to lead to massive gravel extraction taking place on the very edge of the village of Rayne.

The Galliard Homes proposal is for a new town development of 4500 houses with schools, healthcare, shops and employment and is part of their "Master Plan Vision"

Obviously this "Master Plan Vision" of 4500 houses must also have commercial premises in addition to the housing to cater for "employment" and will therefore be a much greater development than 'just 4500 homes'

If both developers were to get their way then the images below will give some idea of the scale of destruction that will befall our countryside.

Boxted Wood shows clearly at center left in the first image. The image to the right simulates the massive area of potential housing if both developments were to go through (40,000 houses) and the devastation of 90ha of land due to Mineral Extraction next to Rayne.
